Talk to anyone about Carnival in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is the first thing that comes to mind. However, Carnival celebrations take place in a number of cities and towns across Brazil. Ask Brazilians, and the consensus seems to be that Salvador has the best Carnival.
Partying in Rio was meant to be the big celebration to end my adventure with a bang. Yet, I was already travelling north. Plus the sticker price goes up in all Carnival locations, especially in Rio. Salvador seemed like such an interesting place – Samba and Capoeira were born there. It’s Carnival lasts 9 days instead of the 6 in Rio and most of Brazil, and…it’s cheaper than Rio. I chose Salvador.
