My initial plan was to go directly from Valparaiso, Chile to Pichilemu, a small surfer town just south of Santiago. However, Chilean buses only tend to only go in one direction, to and from Santiago. I had no choice but to return to Santiago and get another bus. As soon as I arrived in the capital, I had a whatsapp message from a hostel worker in Valparaiso. I had left my valuables in their safe. My valuables meant some money and my passports.
Pichilemu was delayed for two days, as I spent one night recovering in Santiago. I managed to avoid the Brazilian pub crawl and got up the next day for my short return to Valparaiso. Six extra hours on a bus just because I didn’t check if I had my passports on my person before leaving. It’s always the small things that create the biggest problems.
