ESCAPE THE ORDINARY ADVENTURE: Farewell to Bolivia

May 2, 2016 | | Say something

Much of my story in Bolivia involved avoiding the tourist attractions rather than visiting them. Route 36, The witches market, death road, San Pedro prison, and worst of all, I missed the Uyuni salt flats. For some, those flats are the highlight of their visit to Bolivia. They say it’s the closest most of us will get to standing on the moon. I booked a bus and a tour, and missed the bus. With no refunds for this, I just spent the remained of my last week in La Paz. Most of my time was spent writing and getting inappropriately touched by a gay hostel worker that took a liking to me and didn’t think I would notice his hand casually brushing against my buttocks.

Even though I missed out a lot, I was grateful for my experiences. I got what I came for – the Amazon jungle, the highlight of my whole trip. I was ready to leave the country as I got an early morning taxi to the airport and flew to Santiago, Chile.
